ABSTRACT

Arsenic is a toxic metalloid which is having worldwide distribution. In India, it was mostly distributed along the basin of Ganga-Brahmaputra-Padma but now a day it is found higher than permissible limit from the other state also. Among the twenty-eight state of India, West Bengal is badly affected with arsenic as its ground water sometimes contain 50 times higher arsenic than permissible limit. It produces detrimental effect on animal health by inhibiting different enzymatic action as well as long term deposition in the different vital organs produces permanent pathological changes. To improve the health status of the affected animals different mitigating agents have tried but recent literature suggests along with mitigating agents’ supplementation of vitamins and minerals are also necessary.
